DUEL AT BROKEN FURNITURE INN

TALES FROM THE JIANGHU
Yan Tao's daily routine as the proprietor of the Green Brocade Inn is similar to most other proprietors: manage the books, order ingredients, train the staff, greet guests.

And clean up broken furniture.

Green Brocade is better known by its nickname in the world of the jianghu — the Broken Furniture Inn. For some reason, the popular stopping place draws in martial artists intent on proving their honor and settling grudges. Yan Tao is tired of heroes wrecking his place and his inn is always another brawl away from bankruptcy.

But when a group of bandits appears, the fate of his inn rests in the hands of a young pugilist with a mysterious past.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

  • I picked up this book because of the cover. The artwork is breathtaking; the font and color choices for the title really help it to pop and catch the readers’ eye and then draws the reader to the young warrior. Absolutely stunning. ❤️👏🏻 This has been my first experience with the Wuxia genre and I absolutely loved this story! It was masterfully written, the characters were witty, clever and engaging and the imagery was phenomenal. I felt like I was inside of the inn watching the fight brew between Lu Bo and his followers and Miao. I could feel the apprehension Yan Tao felt every time bandits or Xiake entered his inn. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves to read. It’s a short, fun and will keep you engaged from beginning to end. 📚 👍🏻

  • It's a common scene in wuxia stories: a tension-filled confrontation at a restaurant or teahouse that leads to a wild melee of swords swinging, fists punching, and general mayhem. But what about the poor guy who owns the restaurant and has to deal with the resulting damages? Find out in this fun and thrilling story! Clever and well-written, I think this would appeal to most fans of Chinese martial arts stories.

  • [This] is a short whimsical tale of Wuxia told with no small amount of comedy, a wonderful nod to all those Kung Fu movies of the genre. You cannot help but feel for the long suffering restaurant owner, Yan Tao, and his never ending clearing up of broken furniture in the seemingly continuous bouts of fighting. But with the arrival of a very special fighter, his luck takes a turn and like all business men Yan is quick to spot a way to turn the tables ( into more than fire wood ) this is an incredible short story... And if you have even a passing interest in Kung Fu, you should definitely give it a read.
